Starting from Islamabad, you explore the twin cities, travel the historic Grand Trunk Road through Taxila, discover the old soul of Peshawar, and continue north to the cultural and natural heart of Swat Valley.

Tour Itinerary

This 6-day Gandhara Heritage Tour takes you on a meaningful cultural journey through Pakistan’s most historic regions. Starting in Islamabad, explore the twin cities before traveling along the ancient Grand Trunk Road to the archaeological wonders of Taxila and the living history of Peshawar. Continue north to the UNESCO-listed Takht-e-Bahi monastery and the scenic Swat Valley, once the heart of Gandhara civilization. Discover Buddhist sites, old cities, mountain landscapes, and local traditions before returning to Islamabad for shopping and departure, an immersive experience designed in the slow, cultural travel style of Trips Nomad Adventure.

Day 01 :
Arrival in Islamabad & Discovering the Twin Cities

our journey begins in Islamabad, Pakistan’s modern capital, known for its calm atmosphere, green spaces, and thoughtful city planning.

After arrival and check-in, the day is dedicated to understanding Pakistan’s identity and culture. You visit Faisal Mosque, an iconic symbol of modern Islamic architecture set against the Margalla Hills. From here, continue to Pakistan Monument, where exhibits explain the country’s history and independence movement.

Later, step into the cultural world of Pakistan at Lok Virsa Museum, where regional traditions, crafts, and lifestyles come together under one roof. If time allows, a short visit to Rawalpindi gives you a contrast between planned Islamabad and the lively, old-style bazaars of Rawalpindi.

Day 02 :
Islamabad to Peshawar via Taxila & Hasan Abdal

Leaving Islamabad, you follow the historic Grand Trunk Road toward Peshawar. The first major stop is Taxila, once a major center of learning and civilization over 2,000 years ago.

At the Taxila Museum, you see beautifully preserved Gandharan sculptures and relics. You then explore nearby ruins, including ancient monasteries and city remains that show how people lived, studied, and worshipped during Buddhist and Kushan periods.

Continuing the journey, you pass through Hasan Abdal, a town known for its spiritual significance and long history as a stop for travelers and pilgrims.

By afternoon, you arrive in Peshawar, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the region. In the evening, visit Bala Hisar Fort, offering views over the old city and a glimpse into its strategic past. A walk through Qissa Khwani Bazaar introduces you to local life, street food, and traditional storytelling culture.

Day 03 :
Full Day Cultural Exploration of Peshawar

Today is dedicated to discovering Peshawar’s deep cultural layers. You begin at the Peshawar Museum, home to one of the world’s finest Gandhara art collections.

Walking through the old city, you visit Mahabat Khan Mosque, a beautiful example of Mughal-era architecture. Nearby, Panj Tirath reflects the city’s religious diversity across centuries.

Time is also spent exploring traditional streets, spice markets, and tea houses, allowing meaningful interaction with local people. This slow exploration gives a real sense of how history continues to shape daily life.

Day 04 :
Peshawar to Swat Valley via Takht-e-Bahi

Leaving Peshawar, the journey heads north toward Swat, with an important stop at Takht-e-Bahi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set on a hilltop, this ancient Buddhist monastery offers insight into monastic life from nearly 2,000 years ago, along with sweeping views of the surrounding plains.

After exploring the site, continue through the Malakand region, where the landscape gradually changes into green valleys and river scenery. By evening, you arrive in Swat Valley, historically known as the cradle of Gandhara civilization and often called the “Switzerland of the East.”

Day 05 :
Swat Valley Heritage & Return to Islamabad

The day begins with visits to key historical sites in Swat. At the Swat Museum, you explore impressive collections of Gandharan sculptures and local history. Nearby, ancient stupas and archaeological remains reveal Swat’s importance as a Buddhist center.

Along the way, you may also see the famous Jahanabad Buddha, a large rock-carved Buddha that reflects the valley’s spiritual past.

In the afternoon, begin the scenic drive back to Islamabad. Upon arrival, enjoy time at modern shopping areas such as Centaurus Mall or local markets, perfect for souvenirs and gifts.

Day 06 :
Departure Home Country

Transfer to Islamabad International for home flight. Our representative will accompany to say goodbye at the last moment.

What are essentials to know for visiting Pakistan?

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

PASSPORT AND VISA

Participants of all nationalities are required to have a valid passport with six months remaining validity and a visa for Pakistan. Visas must be applied online at https://visa.nadra.gov.pk/   

The main category is MOUNTAINEERING & TREKKING and the sub-category is CULTURE HERITAGE TOUR. You will need a letter of invitation (LOI) which our office will provide along with the requisite documents like Trips Nomad Adventure (TNA) license copy and National Identity Card of the issuing authority. 

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT TRAVEL DOCUMENTS AND A VISA FOR PAKISTAN. 

PERSONAL INSURANCE

As the trip is of strenuous nature, it is a mandatory requirement to have an insurance policy for accidents, medical and helicopter evacuation covering at least $ 30,000. DRESS

In the cities like Islamabad, there is no problem if you are in western dress but in remote regions including Skardu, you will need to have a full dress (covering your body)


LOCAL CREW

The local crew includes a licensed guide, cook, assistant cook, porter’s Sirdar, and porters. Our guides and cooks are well-experienced, strong, supportive and friendly. They performed their duties with full dedication to facilitate our valued clients.    

GROUP JOINING INSTRUCTIONS

The tour starts and ends in Islamabad. TNA, guide or representative will be at the airport to pick the clients with the welcome signboard of TNA.  We can also make reservations for pre and post nights if anyone arriving early or departing late.

BOOKING & DEPOSITS

The trip can be reserved upon as an initial deposit of 50% one month before arrival. The initial deposit shall not be refunded but can be transferred for a future trip.

FINAL PAYMENT

We accept full trip cost before the commencement of the tour. The payments are only accepted in cash/bank transfers in bank account. We don’t accept payments through credit cards. Please do not accept any invoice which is not generated by Trips Nomad Adventure and sent through official email ID.

1) Cancellations must be notified in writing to Trips Nomad Adventure or the agent through which the trip is booked. Cancellation charges shall be levied as follows:

  1. Cancellation before 30 days or more-After a deduction of the 10%, the remaining amount will be refunded. If the deposit is retained with the consent of our client no cancellation charges will be applied. The full amount will be adjusted with a future trip.
  2. Cancellation within 2 weeks before departure –50 % of the package offer
  3. Cancellation within one week of departure or no show –Loss of full payment

2) There shall be no refunds if you leave the trip for any reason whatsoever, either voluntarily or involuntarily, after the trip has begun. No refunds shall be made for any meals, accommodation or services not utilized
