Trek Itinerary

This journey, called after the Wakhi phrase for millstone, passes the lonely Werthum Pass at 5,147 meters, linking the Batura Glacier to the Lupgar Valley. With stunning vistas of towering peaks and rough terrain, this walk is the ideal combination of natural beauty and adventure.

Day 01 :
Arrival in Islamabad (540 m)

Our team will welcome you at Islamabad Airport and transfer you to your hotel. Take the day to rest and recover from your flight.

Day 02 :
Drive from Islamabad to Chilas

After breakfast, drive early in the morning toward Chilas via Naran and Babusar Pass (4,173 m). Enjoy short breaks in Naran for lunch and photography along the scenic route. The journey takes about 10–11 hours. Arrive in Chilas by evening and check into your hotel for rest.

Day 03 :
Drive to Passu, Upper Hunza

Today’s drive takes about 6–7 hours. On the way, stop at Thalichi for a view of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) and at the Rakaposhi viewpoint for refreshments and photos. Continue your journey through the stunning Hunza Valley, reaching Passu (2,400 m) by evening.

Day 04 :
Trek to Yazbin (2,880 m)

Your trek begins! Walk around 11 km (6–7 hours) from Passu to Yazbin. The route leads through sandy paths and the edge of the Batura Glacier—one of the largest glaciers outside the polar region. Overnight camping in tents near the glacier.

Day 05 :
Trek to Yashpirt (3,302 m)

A 6–7 hour trek over rocky terrain and glacier moraines. The trail crosses the Batura Glacier diagonally before reaching Yashpirt, a beautiful green pasture with shepherd huts and views of Distaghil Sar (7,885 m) and the Batura icefall. Camp overnight.

Day 06 :
Trek to Shireen Maidan

Walk for about 6–7 hours (16 km) to reach Shireen Maidan. The route passes through rocky and wild landscapes. Enjoy the mountain scenery and peaceful surroundings. Overnight in camp.

Day 07 :
Trek to Werthum Base Camp

Today is a shorter walk of about 3–4 hours (4 km) from Shireen Maidan to Werthum Base Camp. Take your time to rest and enjoy the views as you prepare for the next day’s ascent. Overnight in camp.

Day 08 :
Trek to Werthum High Camp

A short 3–4 hour trek to High Camp (3.4 km). The climb is steady, giving you time to adjust to higher altitude and enjoy the dramatic mountain views. Camp overnight.

Day 09 :
Cross Werthum Pass (5,147 m) to Harkeesh

A challenging but rewarding day! Hike for 6–7 hours (6 km) over Werthum Pass, the highest point of the trek. After reaching the top, descend steeply to Harkeesh for camping. The stunning mountain panorama makes this one of the most memorable days of your journey.

Day 10 :
Trek to Raminj, Chapursan Valley

Descend from Harkeesh to Raminj in about 3–4 hours. The trail is easier today, offering time to relax and take in the quiet beauty of the Chapursan Valley. Overnight in camp or guesthouse.

Day 11 :
Drive to Khunjerab Pass (Excursion) and Return to Sost

After breakfast, take a day trip to the Khunjerab Pass (the Pakistan–China border). Explore and enjoy the high-altitude scenery before returning to Sost for the night.

Day 12 :
Drive to Karimabad, Hunza

Travel from Sost to Karimabad, visiting Gulmit and Attabad Lake on the way. In Karimabad, explore Baltit Fort (700 years old) and Altit Fort (900 years old). Stroll through the old Altit Village and meet local artisans. Evening walk along the water channels before returning to your hotel.

Day 13 :
Drive to Naran via Babusar Pass

Depart Karimabad for Naran, crossing Babusar Pass (4,173 m) again. The 10–11-hour journey is full of scenic photo stops and viewpoints. Overnight stay in Naran.

Day 14 :
Drive to Islamabad

Travel back to Islamabad (6–7 hours). On the way, visit Taxila, an ancient Buddhist site with museums and ruins dating back to 600 BC. Continue to Islamabad for your final night.

Day 15 :
Departure

Transfer to the airport for your international flight home. Say goodbye to Pakistan with lasting memories of the Karakoram’s beauty and the warm hospitality of its people.
